Welcome
To all who mourn and need
comfort; to all who are tired and need rest; to all who are friendless
and want friendship; to all who search after sheltering love; to all who
pray, and to all who do not, but ought to; to all who sin and need the
Savior; to whoever will come, this church says “Welcome” in the name of
Jesus Christ.
Anmwe!
Anmwe! ... is the Haitian cry for help. Normally, our special Lenten
Mission Offering is received on Palm Sunday, which this year is March
28th. Because of the earthquake in Haiti, we began receiving this
offering immediately and will continue through Palm Sunday. The goal
for this year is $12,000 going to HOPE International and Presbyterian
Disaster Assistance.
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is the
emergency and refugee program of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A.,
focusing on the long term recovery of disaster impacted communities. PDA
enables congregations and mission partners to witness to the healing
love of Christ through caring for communities adversely affected by
crisis and catastrophic events. Supplee Church members assisted families
in Mississippi following Hurricane Katrina through PDA. This year, the
funds are going directly to the relief efforts in Haiti, an already poor
country now devastated by the January earthquake.
HOPE International practices a holistic approach
to poverty alleviation in 14 countries, one of which is Haiti.
Microcredit and basic business training enable individuals to build
businesses and break free from physical poverty, finding that their
increased income enables them to provide more nutritious and regular
meals as well as improved housing and education for their children.
Christ-following loan officers share the hope of the Gospel in the
context of relationships, ministering to spiritual poverty as well. HOPE
has also been ministering directly in response to the crisis in Haiti.
